Buy a US business and run it

Two common routes

• E-2 treaty investor visa. For citizens of countries with a US investment treaty. You put a substantial amount into a real business and run it. It is renewable, but it does not lead directly to a green card.
• EB-5 immigrant investor (direct investment). A green-card route for investors who put in the required minimum and create or preserve at least 10 full-time US jobs. The minimum is lower in some rural and high-unemployment areas. Amounts and rules change, so ask an immigration attorney for the current figures.

Buying an existing company with employees can help with job requirements, which is one reason owner-run businesses are popular with these buyers.
